Nas Clark, is an African American comic artist and illustrator residing in Hamilton, Mississippi. He studied illustration, sequential art, and character design during his time at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design (RMCAD). Nas is passionate about creating illustrations and work in both digital and traditional media. When drawing traditionally, he often uses Copic markers and ink, while for paintings he would prefer to use acrylics and oils. His art style is characterized by a 2D aesthetic.
Nas was raised by my parents and grandparents in a small countryside town. During his childhood, he would watch anime along with Marvel and DC shows with his uncles to pass the time. Nas’s father would occasionally buy him a Dragon Ball DVD set, and they would watch them together. This exposure to anime sparked his interest in drawing characters from the shows that he watched.
During middle school, Nas had received heartbreaking news: Nas’s father passed away from a brain aneurysm. This devastating loss plunged him into a deep depression, which affected his mindset and caused his grades to slip along with him quitting sports which resulted in him to isolate himself. Noticing his distress, the teachers referred him to the school counselor. After a few sessions, the counselor encouraged him to engage in activities that would occupy his mind. In reflecting on his interests, he remembered his old sketchbook and decided to give drawing another chance. After many practices, Nas found that drawing helped him heal my broken heart and soul, transforming his feelings from dull gray canvas to a vibrant color.
